Product Description

Whether you are using them for rapid recovery from exercise, for a potent nutrient to keep nervous system fatigue at bay during a tough training session, to help an injury to heal faster, to fall asleep faster, to build muscle at a more rapid rate, to get added amino acids if you’re aging, vegan, vegetarian or in ketosis, or to give your immune system added support, NatureAminos Essential Amino Acids contain a perfect amount of the eight essential amino acids your body needs to support and maintain muscular, skeletal, enzymatic, and hormonal systems.

You probably know that the amino acids you get from protein are crucial for getting to sleep faster, repairing muscle, recovery, healing of your gut lining, brain function, neurotransmitter formation and much, much more…

…and it sure is easy to assume you are consuming enough of these amino acids from the protein you find in food sources like eggs, cheese, seeds, nuts, meats, etc.

While it is indeed true that you get good quality proteins from these foods, the unfortunate fact is that much of the protein in the food you eat is NOT converted into protein – and instead it just makes nitrogen and ammonia waste that your body has to get rid of plus extra calories.

Yep, most of that expensive post-workout steak is just a ton of money you spend that winds up as a boatload of calories, stress on your digestive system, and not a terribly large amount of true actual amino acid absorption.

Because of this, almost everyone is protein deficient without realizing it, and this deficiency manifests as a nagging injury that won’t heal in an athlete, or brittle bones in a menopausal women, or constant colds in a child. The annoying symptoms of protein and amino acid deficiency is very often something you are aware of, but you (and most doctors) just can’t identify an amino acid deficiency without an expensive test like an organic acids profile. But not getting enough protein can mean low hormones, or a low immune system or risk of chronic disease or cancer, and much more.

However, whether you’re a hard-charging athlete, you’re injured, you need added hormone or neurotransmitter support, the essential amino acids in NatureAminos are in the exact ratios your body needs for maximum utilization by the body – with 99% absorption and utilization, giving you all the advantages of eating an entire steak, but with only 0.4 calories and a convenient, portable, instantly digestible tablet form that you can swallow or chew or powder form that you can mix in water or juice.

And yes, this means you get all the advantages of walking in from your workout and getting the equivalent of eating an entire steak, but without actually having to prepare, chew, digest or engage in any other stressful or inconvenient way to get your protein. Don’t take this the wrong way: of course, we’re all about eating high-quality, tasty foods like steak, eggs and nuts, but when you’re hammering on a bike, pounding the pavement on a run, have 10 minutes to figure out how to get all the protein you need, or you’re in any other situation that requires you get your protein fast and you get it absorbed even faster, NatureAminos is the perfect solution.

So what’s inside NatureAminos?

NatureAminos is an essential amino acids (also known as EAA’s) supplement that is 99% utilized by the body to make protein. No other form of protein comes close! The ingredients contain all eight essential amino acids, perfect for omnivores, Paleo dieters, vegans, vegetarians, and ketosis:

  • Tryptophan to encourage the release of important neurotransmitters and hormones for mood and sleep, such as serotonin and melatonin.
  • Lysine, which, if deficient, can result in a deficiency in niacin (Vitamin B), as well as slow connective tissue repair.
  • Methionine to supply sulphur and other compounds required by your body for optimum metabolism and growth.
  • Valine, which is needed for muscle fiber firing, tissue repair, and for the maintenance of proper nitrogen balance in the body.
  • Leucine, which stimulates muscle protein synthesis and may be the major fuel involved in anabolic (tissue building) reactions.
  • Isoleucine, which is important for blood sugar regulation, muscle development and repair and energy regulation.
  • Threonine, which is important for antibody production, immune system activity, and can be converted into glycine and serine.
  • Phenylalanine, which stimulates the release of neurotransmitters and hormones such adrenaline and noradrenaline, which are necessary substances for optimum activity of your central and peripheral nervous systems.

So why are NatureAminos any different than other protein sources?

It all comes down to quality. The chart below illustrates the Amino Acid Utilization (AAU™) that NatureAminos offers, which is dramatically greater than dietary protein sources.

Dietary-Protein-Sources

  • At the low end of the spectrum are branched chain amino acids – only 1% of their content is utilized by the body, with 99% resulting in waste that your body must then process and eliminate.
  • Next are whey and soy proteins – only 18% or less of their content is utilized by the body with 83% leaving as waste.
  • Food like meat, fish and poultry fare just a bit better, with 32% being absorbed and 68% being wasted.
  • Eggs are the winners in the food category with 48% being utilized and 52% converted to waste.

Now…

…compare those numbers to NatureAminos – a massive 99% is put to work by the body, with only 1% leaving as waste. Not only that, but NatureAminos is absorbed by the body within 23 minutes. And there is only 0.4 of a calorie per tablet or scoop.

So how should you use your NatureAminos? Simply use the chart below for reference.

Q: What are NatureAminos?

NatureAminos are a dietary protein substitute that contains 8 essential amino acids in a highly purified, natural crystalline form.

Q: What are essential amino acids?

Essential Amino Acids (EAA's) are nutrients that are indispensable for human life because they cannot be synthesized within the human body, therefore, they must be supplied through the diet.

Q: I've read there are 9 'essential' amino acids. Why did you leave out Histidine in NatureAminos?

Histidine is actually not essential. When you take NatureAminos the Histidine level in the blood will rise within 1 hour. The absolute genius of NatureAminos is that when you have the essential 8 all the others can be made as needed. Also worth noting: Arginine, sometimes also touted as an “essential” amino acid, levels will rise alongside Histidine after taking NatureAminos. When you take NatureAminos, your body has all it needs to make any and all natural proteins – that, by the way, is why it's called NatureAminos!

Q: Are amino acids from animal or vegetable source?

Amino acids cannot be classified as either animal or vegetable. They are, simply, natural compounds.

Q: It has been said that during an athletic performance the use of NatureAminos may optimize muscle mass, strength and endurance, and may minimize the muscle recovery period after physical activity, is that true for everybody?

Yes. Whether, you are 15 or 75 years old, an amateur or a professional athlete, you will experience positive results related to your muscle mass, strength and endurance. The results may vary, of course, according to your age, gender, health status, and the intensity and frequency of your workout.

Q: Is NatureAminos a natural product?

Yes, NatureAminos is a 100% natural product.

Q: How long does it take to digest NatureAminos?

NatureAminos is digested within 23 minutes from its ingestion, compared to several hours from protein from food sources.

Q: Does NatureAminos have any drug or food interaction?

No. NatureAminos does not have any drug or food interaction. However, before taking NatureAminos or other dietary supplements consult your physician.

Q: May protein supplements be taken with NatureAminos?

No. Protein supplements should not be taken in conjunction with NatureAminos. This may prevent: a lowering of protein uptake and synthesis; an increase in nitrogen catabolites; and an overloading of digestive functions.

Q: How long do you have to use NatureAminos to be able to feel or measure positive results?

You will be able to feel or measure an increase in muscle endurance during exercise immediately upon beginning to use NatureAminos. Meanwhile, you will be able to measure an increase in muscle strength, combined with a shortened recovery period after physical activity within the first or second week using the suggested dosage.

Q: Is it normal for there to be broken tablets and powder in the bottle?

Yes, completely normal. Only pressure is used to bind the NatureAminos tablets and pure amino acid powders don't hold together particularly well. Zero fillers, binders or coatings are used in production, which makes NatureAminos exceptionally clean and pure.

I was looking to buy Kion aminos, but now I see this product. Which one do you reccomend more, and why? The bit aboit Kion having the right balance of amino acids is what sold me. Thanks.

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

This product is no longer available, and I am not recommending Kion Aminos. Read more about them on GetKion.com!

  2. Kenan

Giving 5 stars because most likely this has been helpful.

Ben, can you think of any reason why these might cause inflammation? Or cause symptoms of anxiety to return?

I’ve been healing complex mental and physical issues and just added these in. I’ve also had a resurgence of symptoms around the same time, but it could be from other factors.

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

The amino acids in Nature Aminos would have no real reason to cause inflammation. They are just a specific blend of the 8 essential amino acids, to build & repair body proteins.

  3. Afrhil

    Hi Ben,

I am very glad to have discovered your product NatureAminos Essential Amino Acids. My brother has Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 4 nearing End-stage Renal Disease. Kidney patients are encouraged to have a low-protein diet to delay the damage of their kidneys and supplement with essential amino acids instead.

According to your website, your recommended dosage for healthy individuals is 5-10 tablets of NatureAminos per day, while for those with chronic illness is 10 tablets two to three times per day.

Aside from his kidney disease, my brother is severely underweight with 33 kg at 160 cm (BMI=12.9). We wish him to improve his kidney function and gain muscle by having a low-protein diet and taking NatureAminos as his essential amino acid supplement.

However, we have read somewhere that very high dosage amino acid supplement may be harmful for kidney patients since it will produce much waste when the kidneys function to remove waste from the body has already deteriorated.

    Question:

Is taking 20 to 30 tablets NatureAminos per day safe for people with chronic kidney disease, since it is your recommended dosage for people with chronic illness? Will the >99% utilization of NatureAminos disregard the supposedly waste produced by other amino acid supplements?

I’ll very much appreciate your immediate response. Thank you very much.

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

It is nitrogen waste that is harmful to the kidneys. One of the things that is really good about Nature Aminos is that the ratio is such that it produces very little (if any) nitrogen waste, so people with kidney issues are able to take Nature Aminos without causing the harmful waste.

  4. Kyla (verified owner)

i never received my order, apparently FedEx took it to a postal office according to the tracking info (I don’t have a PO box?!?) I contacted customer support multiple times to get a refund or a another order shipped to ME and I have yet to hear anything two months later.

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

Kyla, can you please email support at [email protected]?

  5. AK (verified owner)

Good product. Works as described, but confused by some of the responses to others’ questions. Can you clarify these issues for me:

    1. Instead of taking these before and after an intense workout (as instructed above), can you take them before, and use a whey protein powder after (combined with other stuff) instead?

    2. If doing a regular resistance trainingworkout, is taking them before the workout enough, so that you don’t need an immediate post-workout meal?

    3. I track macro/micro nutrients (e.g., cronometer), and calculate my protein intake using the recommended formula of 0.5 grams of protein per lb of lean muscle mass. My understanding is that if I take 8 tablets of Essential Amino Acids, that’s 8 grams of protein that contributes to my total daily intake?

  6. selvendhiiran (verified owner)

    Hi Ben,

    I just purchased 5 Bottles.(4 tablets, 1 powder)

    Which is better

    1. 10 capsules 25 minutes pre workout on an empty stomach or

    2. 5 capsules 25 minutes pre workout on an empty stomach plus 1 scoop of Nature Amino’s taken taken together with 50-75 grams Glycofuse intra workout

I am on an intense cut phase getting down from 9% – 7% body fat and my workouts last approx 90 minutes.

    Thanks for your time.

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

Either option would be totally suitable. However, I am not familiar with Glycofuse, so can’t comment on that part.

  7. Keenan

    Ben!

I’m looking to use Nature Aminos to address fatigue and lack of motivation. I’ve already stopped working out, and have fixed sudden anxiety issues using magnesium supplementation and have been noticing further improvement from ONNIT’s New Mood, and their gut health packs (thin stools lead me to believe I had gut problems too. Gone now.)

I have no intention of doing hard exercise for at least another month or two. When would you recommend taking nature aminos as part of a brain-repair protocol?

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

Are you asking when to take them in terms of what part of the day? Or just at what point to start taking them? If it is when to start taking them, they should be a part of anyone’s daily routine. 8-10 tablets (or 1-2 scoops of powder) every morning. Then when you get back in to working out, you can increase it to 10-15 tablets (or 2-3 scoops), with half in the morning and half before bed.

  8. Augustine

    Hi Ben,

I am a male, 26 years old. I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 4 and I need to limit my protein intake for my kidney’s health. However, I am severely underweight at 32.5 kg (~71.5 lbs) with a BMI of 12.7 (height=160 cm). I need to increase my weight and muscle mass, but I need to limit my protein intake. I found your product promising in meeting my needs.

    1. I read that in order to build muscle and gain weight, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends consumption of 1.4 to 1.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. So since I am 32.5 kg, I need 45.5 to 58.5 g of protein. How many grams is this in NatureAminos tablets?

    2. My nephrologist prescribed me Ketosteril (Ketoanalogues + Essential Amino Acids). A 600 mg tablet contains the following:

    Ca-3-methyl-2-oxo-valerate 67 mg

    Ca-4-methyl-2-oxo-valerate 101 mg

    Ca-2-oxo-3-phenyl-propionate 68 mg

    Ca-3-methyl-2-oxo-butyrate 86 mg

    Ca-DL-2-hydroxy-4-(methyl-thio) butyrate 59 mg

    L-lysine acetate 105 mg

    L-threonine 53 mg

    L-tryptophan 23 mg

    L-histidine 38 mg

    L-tyrosine 30 mg

    nitrogen 36 mg

    Ca 50 mg

How does this ratio compare with NatureAmino’s ratio? What can you say about Ketosteril’s bioavailability?

    3. I read that essential amino acids (like Ketosteril) are safer for patients with chronic kidney disease because it provides the body’s EAA needs without the protein waste products (that are harmful to the kidneys) from dietary protein. Is this kidney safety also true for NatureAminos since it is EAA?

    4. If I take enough NatureAminos as my EAA supplement, do you think I can stop taking Ketosteril and tell my nephrologist that I will be taking another EAA supplement? My current dosage of Ketosteril is 3600 mg/day (two 600 mg tablets three times a day).

I am looking forward to your response. I am afraid that I will lose more weight on the days to come. Before this happens, I hope to be able to take NatureAminos and start gaining muscles and weight and be healthier.

    Thank you so much.

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

Don't take the product from the nephrologist. Take 8 NatureAmino tablets 3 x a day and it will meet all of your protein needs.
Check BUN periodically but in clinical trials it does not go up with NatureAminos.

  9. Bill

Does the powder have a flavor?

How does this compare to Amino complex?

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

Yes, the powder is a “Cool Lime” flavor.

I haven’t tried the Amino Complex, so I can’t comment on the flavor – but theirs is probably similar. As for the contents, their ratio of the amino acids is different, so I would say it is inferior.

  10. Andrea (verified owner)

Just bought tablets and powder. All good so far. My question pertains to the recommendation to wait 2 hours between dosing. If I take 5-8 tabs 30 minutes before a ‘hard core’ strength class that is 60 minutes in length, and then 5-8 immediately after…that is less than 2 hours. Will this be a problem?

  11. Chris Rydgren

    Ben,

I am 52 and my mother is 71. We supplement daily with collagen hydrolysate. Since we don’t manufacture collagen like in our younger years, will we still need a collagen supplement in addition to NatureAminos, or does the superior bioavailability of this amino product solve the collagen synthesis problem? We would like to streamline our supplements…

  12. Kelly

I can’t seem to find the number of servings per container. What are they? Thanks!

  13. Selven

    Hi,

How many grams of protein is equivalent to 10 tablets of Nature Aminos?

Is it safe to say that 5 tablets of Nature Aminos is equivalent to 30 grams of Whey protein?

  14. Selven

    Hi Ben,

How many grams of protein is equivalent to 10 tablets of Nature Amino’s?

Is it safe to assume that 5 tablets is equivalent to 30 grams of Whey protein so 10 tablets is equivalent to 60 grams of Nature Amino’s?

  15. David

    Hello Ben,

How would NatureAminos compare to this product:

  16. Mark

    Hello Ben,

I heard of you for the first time through the barbellshrugged podcast and I am absolutely amazed by your knowledge and and what you share with us so thank you for that. Now, I am extremely interested in getting your product but did some research first to see what was your concurrence. I’ve found PerfectAmino 8 Essential Amino Acids Tablets with BCAA by BodyHealth™ on Amazon and would like to hear your opinion on how your product sets itself apart from that one.

    Thank you

    Mark

  17. Karl

Hey Ben, How would you recommend taking these for a 100 mile race that will last about 36hrs?

  18. Esteban

This such a good product! I don’t take it everyday only on big days and it definitely works.

one questions.. does it affect Heart Rate? or RHR?

  19. Chantelle

    Hi Ben,

I’m very interested in trying your product but I’m hoping you could tell me the source of your amino acids? Thanks so much!

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

The individual amino acids are vegan sourced, so are from plants & veggies. Many are made in a lab through a fermentation process which starts with a plant or veggie, from which the amino acids are extracted.

  20. Selven

    Hi

IS it better to consume 5 capsules 6 times a day without food or 10 capsules 3 times a day without food to preserve muscle mass?

I am in a cut phase and wont be consuming any animal, whey or dairy protein for the next 3 weeks starting end of the month

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

Definitely do 3 x 10 tablets. It is OK to take with food, just not other protein or fat. Either way is fine though.

  21. Matt

    Hi Ben,

Can these or Thorne’s Amino Complex be used in synergy with Exogenous Ketones? Can they be consumed together or separate? Thank you!

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

Nature EAA can be taken with ketones. No problem.
The Thorne Aminos do not have a high net nitrogen usage, so your best bet is the NatureAminos

  22. Paul

    Ben,

First, I love the NatureAminos. I also have a couple of questions. I listened to the pod-cast you had with Dr. Minkoff on EAA’s. During the podcast he said that 30g of EAA’s are the threshold a person would need even hardcore training and agreed with you that above that amount and you’d get nitrogenous waste build up. So my questions are:

1.) If 30 grams is the threshold you need for EAA’s that benefit protein synthesis, what is the point in eating any other additional protein sources during the day? Further, wouldn’t eating any additional sources push you over the 30g threshold and be wasted? I also thought I heard (or read) that above 30g and it can be converted into fat? Is that also correct?

2.) I am a 215 pound male in excellent shape from natural bodybuilding. I am currently at about 14% body fat and have stalled out. I found your product and the podcast with Dr. Minkoff and figured your EAA’s might get me going again in the right direction as I try to get to single digits. If I am taking 10g of Nature Amino’s daily pre and post workout (20g total), how do I calculate my remaining requirements for protein from other food sources for the rest of the day. If those food protein sources are providing me EAA’s (albeit at much lower bio-available rates), don’t I still run the risk of exceeding the 30g threshold and actually getting not further benefit?

    Thank you in advance!

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

You could live on just the aminos and get your full protein supply. But, most people like to eat other foods. So we usually supplement in addition to food. 😉

Yes. You will make some nitrogen waste if you taken in more than you need.

If you are taking 20 grams of the aminos, you have another 10 grams or aminos or the equivalent. That would be about 30 grams of meat or fish or 20 grams of egg protein.
This is okay if you are a bigger guy and need a little more.

  23. Thomas (verified owner)

    Hey Ben,

The article sold me very quickly. I did biathlon for about seven years in my pre-teens and generally have *somewhat* of an athlethic background. I’ve had some very lazy and poor nutrition periods in the intervening years.

I’m 28 now and over the past few years I’ve been slowly improving my behavior in terms of nutrition and activity. The past year has been excellent and I am seeing some decent development in muscle mass.

I am not as educated about body chemistry and supplementation as I would like to be. I have been taking relatively light combinations of whey, creatine and BCAAs lately and have seen some results. I am actually feeling quite good! I’m ready to further improve my health and fitness, as well as gain some decent mass, for strength as well as aesthetic purposes.

So, I am a bit of a newb, inexperienced, so please bear with me.

My questions… (after already purchasing 3 bottles of tablets – still on their way, perhaps Ill follow up when I’ve used them) …

    1. In the article it says *all* EAA blends also contain all BCAAs. So…I don’t need to buy BCAAs anymore?

    2. It says to not eat protiens within 30 minutes of taking these. Is there danger there or are we simply talking in terms of efficiency and absorbtion here?

    3. Any general advice for someone somewhat inexperienced with supplementation and the like? I’m not TOO green, I do consider myself athletic and I do have training knowledge. I will also continue to do my own research. Still…Any brief guidance would be greatly valued.

Sorry for my long windedness/posting in the review section! Wasn’t sure where to ask these things. Thank you for the time.

    Thomas

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

BCAAs have their own purposes, so to take more of them is not a bad idea, to suit those particular needs. They are also in the EAAs as they are all part & parcel of building a complete body protein. Just don’t take them at the same time, since the ratio of the EAAs is what gives them their superior utilization. The EAAs are in your system with 23 minutes, so just bear that in mind.

You are correct that there is no danger. Just utilization. If you (for example), blend 10g of NatureAminos at the same time as 10g of meat, you are mixing the ratios, so will lower the utilization of the NatureAminos, while raising the utilization of the meat.

  24. William Zimsky (verified owner)

I really noticed a difference when I took 5 tablets before and after long bike rides. I had more energy during the ride and did not feel tired the next day.

I am now training for a marathon. I think I remember that you “spiked” your water bottles with amino acids during Ironmans. If I take 5 tablets before my once a week long run and 5 tablets after, would it also help to add some powder to my water bladder? If so, how many scoops should I put in my water bladder per hour of my long run? (My long run pace is about 11 minutes a mile, if that matters.)

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

In my opinion, yes, it would be good to put powder in the bladder. There are 5 grams of EAAs per scoop, so it would depend on the duration of the run and volume of water in the bladder. Also, I would recommend adding ice to the water to keep it cold during the run, as the powdered aminos taste better when cold.

  25. James (verified owner)

The product is excellent however the shipping from the USA to Canada makes purchasing any products prohibitive. It cost me more in shipping, duty and handling chargers that the cost of the three products I ordered. International shipping needs to be figured our or the products remain a US product only.

So I look at the ingredients and take the advice but have to source other high quality products in country.

  26. Tom

    Hey Ben,

How does this compare to hydrolyzed collagen (bovine)?

It appears to have +/- 90% uptake.

Would it make sense to keep using that and use something like your product to supply the missing EAA?

I’m no athlete but more looking into adopting a minimal synthesis/waste diet and lifestyle.

    Cheers!

    • Ben Greenfield (verified owner)

This is a continual confusing point.
Absorption is the amount that goes from the intestine to the blood. Digested is the amount broken down of a complex protein so it can go into the blood. Utilization of amino acids is the amount that the cells actually use to make into protein for body structures. Collagen is animal protein from hoofs or some other structure. Its utilization is only about 33%, just like meat. It is no better. PA is 99% utilized for body protein manufacturing. So it is at least 3x better than collagen.
Also collagen must be digested. Many lack the enzymes to do this. PA is already digested and is in an elemental form. So its absorption will be near 100%. That adds to it also.

  27. Selven

    HI ben.

Thanks for answering my previous question..

    1. for 14 days i will not be consuming protein from animal, whey and dairy protein.. My coach has recommended doing an amino acid fast during that time to keep my hard earned muscle.. He has recommended 5-8 times per day of 10-15 grams of Essential amino acids..I will still be eating carbs and fats but no protein..

I am in the midst of a cut phase consuming 120-130 grams protein plus 5grams of BCAA’s before bed…

I will be taking 14 days off for a religious trip. Can i consume 10 tablets of Nature aminos essential amino acids 5 times a day with a 3 hour hour interval between dosages?

I am asking because you have mentioned in the “important notes section” to not consume more then 30 tablets in a day..

    2. IS it dangerous to consume more then 30 tablets in a day?

    3. Why are you against consuming more then 30 tablets in a day?

    Thanks for your time!

    • Ben Greenfield

Its not dangerous to take more, but your body will not utilize more than that unless you are a very big muscular guy doing a lot of work.
30 grams of Nature aminos would be like 180 grams of whey protein. If you could stomach that without a gas blow up (and you couldn't), and you could use it (which you can't) it would be more than enough for whatever you are doing. So 10 tablets 3x a day is enough for all of your protein needs. Just get enough other calories with Vits, minerals and fats and you should be good to go.
      🙂

I have a friend who swears by these and have seen her muscle growth first hand. How many tablets are in a bottle. I’m sure it’s posted but I’m not seeing it?

    • Ben Greenfield

It would seem that a raw living complete plant source of protein would provide all the amino acids in sufficient quantities, are easily absorbable, that required for health for non-athletes. Where do raw sprouts (sunflower greens, pea shoots, broccoli, cabbage, etc.) and algea (spirulina, chlorella, etc.) fit into your protein comparison diagram?

    • Ben Greenfield

Very low actually. The best spirulinas come in at 6%. Many of them are less.
      Sorry!

  30. TDeuber

Hi Ben. Are these plant based and appropriate for a vegan diet?

    • Ben Greenfield

      They are.

  31. Selven

    Hi Ben,

    Sounds like a great product

    Couple questions before i purchase

    1. Can 5 tablets stimulate protein synthesis if taken before bed? Does the product contain at least 2.5 grams of leucine?

    2. What is the source of the aminos..Is it from animal products?

    3. Many folks say BCAA’s and EAA’s breaks the fast..I am curious to know why do you say this product does not break the fast as it does not secrete insulin..Do you have any evidence for this is it anecdotal?

    4. Can i take this product before bed in conjunction with Biotrust organic greens powder, liposomal turmeric, zinc, d3, probitotics, 2.5 grams triglyceride liquid fish oil and magnesium spray or do i have it 23 minutes before?

    5. Can i take this product with a cup of organic bone broth?

    6. What’s the difference between the powder and the capsules besides the obvious capsule and powder?

    Thanks man..Looking forward to purchasing

    • Ben Greenfield

      1. (bed question) yes. (leucine question) no. Its a balanced product.

      2. Vegan sourced NON GMO

      3. Does not stimulate insulin. I take them and do not go out of ketosis with 10 tablets twice a day

      4. All good except the fish oil. Take that after 23 minutes.

      5. Yes but works better if you take it alone without any fat

      6. Same active ingredients. Powder has some natural flavorings and stevia.

  32. Steve

    Hi Ben,

Should we be decreasing the amount of protein we are consuming from whole foods when taking these? I’m currently 155 and trying to gain muscle, eating about 120g of protein per day. What kind of reduction would you suggest if any? Thanks.

    • Ben Greenfield

No. Just add 10 Perfect Aminos taken all at once – best if right before workout.

  34. Jacob (verified owner)

2 questions: first, what serving size is equivalent to a 20g protein shake?

Second, if I can’t afford to take 10tablets before AND after a workout, which of the two doses should I choose? Are there different benefits for taking them before vs after a workout?

    Thanks!!

    • Ben Greenfield

Hey Jacobi – If someone were to just take the aminos, 10 tablets 3 times a day would meet their total protein requirements. This was tried for 2 years and the person was able to add about 30 pounds of lean body mass over that period of time.

10 tablets once a day before the workout is best for most people and with that have 2-3 servings of animal protein the rest of the day.

Can type 1 diabetics take this and does it have the same effect and/or support insulin uptake/absorption and reduce carbohydrate cravings?

Does it support bone repair from a crush fracture?

    • Ben Greenfield

It is perfect for type 1 diabetics. It does not need insulin or stimulate insulin. It does support bone repair very well.

  36. Greg

    Hey Ben,

Like you I am a hunter gatherer for the research. Could you point me in the direction of the study or studies that supports the NNU (Net Nitrogen Utilization) compared to Meat, Fish, Poultry, Whey, Casein, BCAA’s etc. I can only find Luca’s work on the original discovery of MAP comparing it to Whole Hen Egg Protein.

    Thanks in Advance

    • Ben Greenfield

Hey Greg- That is the only published paper in calculating NNU. This study cost over a million dollars and was self financed. No drug company would do this. Also, thousands of patients and customer testimonials, and feedback reaffirm the findings. I know from personal studies that it does not break me out of ketosis and gives no insulin spike.

  37. Erik

Hello Ben. Can these be taken in conjunction with the qualia supplement?

    • Ben Greenfield

      Yes, absolutely

  38. Anna (verified owner)

In a 14-20hr fast (basically skipping breakfast), would you take them pre or post strength training (if done early, say 6am, then nothing to eat till after midday)? Even if lowish intensity and volume? What about insulin release? That would “break” the fast (as BCAA’s reportedly do)? And how about for easy cardio, like MAF heart rate stuff? It seems like they wouldn’t really be as beneficial here, ie save them (EAA’s) for high intensity stuff where muscle breakdown and/or delay in eating might lead to impaired muscle repair. Thoughts?

    • Ben Greenfield

If you're starting to work out in a fasted state you can actually maintain a higher intensity if you take 10 to 20 g of these immediately prior to the workout. If it is a workout of low intensity and low volume, I really wouldn't take anything at all. In either scenario they will indeed not break a fast as there is almost 0 insulin release. The only reason to take them during the long or easy cardio workout would be to keep yourself from cannibalizing muscle if you're wanting to maintain as much muscle as possible during aerobic exercise.

  39. Rob hohenbrink (verified owner)

Is it ok to still take protein shakes just not at the same time or is it better to not supplement whey protein.

    • Ben Greenfield

That might be a little excessive…I'd do one or the other unless you're trying to build a lot of muscle.

  40. Gregg

Are there any reports of gout attacks associated with nature aminos? Does this product contain DNA fragments?

    • Ben Greenfield

Absolutely zero reports of gout. There are no DNA fragments or anything else except the aminos.

  41. Rich

Hi Ben, Love your podcast, blog and NatureAminos. I have 2 questions for you. With regards to taking these with fat. I am taking 5 NatureAminos upon waking and about ten minutes later then having a fat coffee blend ( 2 cups coffee & 1 tbsp. each of coconut oil, ghee & MCT ) before heading out for my morning run. Am I diminishing the uptake or effectiveness with the fat coffee or are the fats in there OK with NatureAminos? What would be your recommended dosage pattern for a 24 hour ultra running event?

    • Ben Greenfield

It is fine to have the fats added in as those will not compete with the amino acids for absorption. For an altar endurance event, I recommend 10 g per hour during the entire event and preferably an approach like this: https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/2015/12/how-to-g…

For more, I'd be happy to help you via a personal one-on-one consult. Just go to http://greenfieldfitnesssystems.com/product/ben-g… and then choose a 20 or 60 minute consult, whichever you'd prefer. I can schedule ASAP after you get that.

I tried the powder because that is the method I’m used to when consuming BCAAs. Unfortunately the cool lime flavor was impossible for me to get down, it is extremely bitter. I tried to just gulp it down so that I don’t waste $40, but it looks like I will just get rid of it. Maybe the tablets would be a better bet next time?

  43. Matt (verified owner)

No need to swallow these like pills, folks. Just chew them up. They are slightly bitter, but wash it down with water and it really is not that bad.

  44. Carlis

Ty for the reply earlier in the thread Ben.

Would this also work for a Intermentent fasting between 12-16 hours while weight training occurring toward the end of the fast and the goal is muscle building?

Is it better to fast for 12 as oppose to 16 hours for muscle building as the goal?

    • Ben Greenfield

Yep, it keeps you in fasted state. You have to play with the time to see what is right for your body, but start with 12 hours…

  45. Scott Thomas (verified owner)

Great product! I use for my own training as well a for my clients. I would be very curious to know the quantity of each essential amino however so that I can track amount contributed to my diet each day. Any source for this?

    Thanks Ben!

    • Ben Greenfield

Because this is a proprietary blend of the 8 essential amino acids, we can’t disclose the exact formula. However, we can tell you that the range of amino acids in each tablet is between 4% to 19% (the lowest is Tryptophan at less than 40 mg and the highest is Leucine at less than 200 mg).

  46. June Woo (verified owner)

Too many additive like Malic acid, Citric acid, silica and stevia. I would have like to know that these were in the product before I purchased 5 containers of the amino powder. I don’t need a product with other additive. I can add my own vitamin c (camu camu), bamboo silica and powdered stevia from organic stevia leaves. Additionally, I don’t know what percentage of these additive make up the product.

    • Ben Greenfield

Per 6.36 gram scoop, there are a full 5 grams of the aminos. The remaining 1.36 grams are extremely minimal amounts of excipients that were needed in order to make the powder dissolve better, and to make it taste half-way decent. As you probably know, the taste of the raw aminos are disgusting, so other natural ingredients were needed in order to make it a drink powder. Many people choose the tablets, to get the amino acids without any excipients at all, so that would be an option. But again, there are very minute amounts of the excipients in the powder, and they are all natural…

  47. Brian

Can the powder be taken pre/intra workout? Like to consume as workout is going on? And always forfeit to consume pre workout within allotted time period.

    Thank you.

    • Ben Greenfield

Yes, it can be, and many people use it that way. However, remember that during a workout, your body is primarily breaking down muscles (proteins), so these essential amino acids are not going to be put to work as much as during recovery (such as when you are sleeping), etc.

  48. Nicole Piunno (verified owner)

I just tried this for the first time. The smell of the powder is really terrible, I even wondered is it possible for the powder to spoil? I took one sip after mixing in water and couldn’t bear the taste. Did I get a bad batch or is this terrible taste and smell to be expected?

    • Ben Greenfield

The powder can't spoil, no, but we have an all-new (still organic) flavor that is 10X better than before. So I would suggest trying one more batch before you give it up because I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

  49. June (verified owner)

I purchased the Amino powder from your site. How long can I eat normal food after taking my post amino workout drink ?

    • Ben Greenfield

Hi June, Nature Aminos (powder or tablets) can be taken with food (fruits, veggies, starches, etc), just preferably not with other protein (meat, beans, eggs, etc.) or fats. If you take the aminos, you only have to wait 23 minutes and then you can eat protein & fat. And, if you already ate protein or fat, it is best to wait an hour or two before taking the aminos. HOWEVER (and this is important): It is more important to take the aminos every day, as a habit or normal routine, than it is to worry about taking with food. What that means is, if you happen to mess-up and take them too close together, don’t worry about it!! It is not harmful in any way. All it does is reduce the utilization a bit. But it would be way worse to allow this to interrupt your routine, and then you end up falling out of the habit and stop taking it all together. Know what I mean?

  50. Matthew

How much Tryptophan is in this product? It is possible to have a seritonin crash when stopping usage?

    • Ben Greenfield

There is less than 40mg of Tryptophan in each tablet. There wouldn’t be any serotonin crash.

How can BCAAs only be “utilized 99%”?

  54. Carlos Cueva

How would you suggest using this supplement if the goal is for bodybuilding/strength and workouts are done early in the morning? If high volume weight lifting is done on an empty stomach with only this supplement would a catabolic state happen?

    • Ben Greenfield

      Hey Carlos,

Take 10g before, then for any workouts longer than an hour 10g during. If you want a huge anabolic effect, take 10 post workout too, but pre and during best.

  55. Marisa (verified owner)

I have been taking these for 3 weeks now and definitely notice the difference after a hard work out; I am NOT sore. I even got my husband on them too and he also noticed the difference in soreness. His soreness has been something he has been talking about since e he has been working out harder and with each additional year in his age. 🙂 Thanks Ben for making this awesome amino acid supplement!

  56. Jackson

    Hey Ben,

Question about mixing products. In both your blog about “What to eat before, during and after workouts…” and your youtube showing how you blend your own fuel for racing, you mix MCT, UCAN and EAAs. Im a bit confused because the above dosage instructions for NatureAminos states not to take with fats, to wait 25 minutes after taking EAAs. If MCT is in the blended mix there obviously cant be a wait period.

    What am I missing here?

    Thanks

  57. Mike (verified owner)

The increase in my exercise endurance was hard to believe! I had never taken an amino acid supplement previously because I was skeptical. I am glad that I gave these amino acid tablets a try. Later on I mentioned to my doctor that I was exercising a lot more and had sore muscles and tiredness. I worried that I might be “overtraining.” My doctor wondered otherwise, and he ordered a vitamin D blood test, which came back low despite my taking a vitamin pill with 500% of what the government recommends for vitamin D intake. I read that vitamin D deficiency is very common, and therefore perhaps you should mention that others should request a vitamin D test if experiencing “overtraining” type symptoms. I see that there is a medical study that suggests that vitamin D might improve athletic performance (Nutrients. 2013 Apr 17;5(4):1253-75).

  58. Sherri

    Hi Ben,
Does your product contain other ingredients such as Stevia? I purchased a bottle of PerfectAmino and started getting violently ill after never having a problem with MAP in the past. I can only correlate it to a problem with stevia and chicory root.
    Thanks!

Following this type of training routine: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/26741119/
How would you suggest I supplement with Nature Aminos? I would like to take them post HIT workout at night but I also want to eat a meal with protein and fat.

    • Ben Greenfield

Take them PRE workout at a dosage of 10g! (10 tablets)

  60. Dana

I read an article saying that this product also helps with carb cravings. Is that true? If not, anything you’d recommend?

    Thanks!

  61. Patrick (verified owner)

Ben, would you consider NatureAminos are a replacement for BCAAs?

  62. Mallory (verified owner)

Hi again! I ordered these and I notice a BIG difference with my endurance and how long I’m able to continue to train! I’ve read that it is BEST to accompany EAA with a carb to maximize muscle growth. If trying to maintain ketosis, which carbs do you recommend? Something like broccoli? Boiled egg?

    Thanks!

  63. Mallory

Do you absolutely have to take with before an intense workout? I would like to continue exercising in the morning in a fasted state for optimal fat burn. Will it make you feel sick?

    Thanks!

    • Ben Greenfield

NatureAminos don't break your fast. So you can take them. And no they shouldn't make you feel sick.

  64. Ray

Absolutely awesome podcast ! Great questions as well, and ones I’ve had myself. My guess to the last one is yes because those powders breakdown to amino acids before reforming into muscle. So the follow on would be why protein at all and not just amino acids ?

    • Ben Greenfield

    • Ben Greenfield

Here's a response from Dr Minkoff: The key is the fact that these are the essential aminos. Protein is made of 22 amino acids, of which the body can produce 14 on its own. The other 8 must be consumed from an outside source, and when taken in the right ratios, the body can then make all the protein it needs. So you are correct that you can just take the amino acids and not added protein powders and such, which are much less utilized by the body. ONE COULD LIVE ON 10 TABLETS OF PERFECT AMINO AND NO OTHER PROTEIN AND DO VERY WELL.

  65. Justin

I’ve heard to put on 1lb of muscle mass you need to consume an additional 10-14g of protein/day. Would the NatureAminos work in the same way as a regular protein powder (like Deep30) for putting on mass?

  66. Michael

Ben, is there a difference between your Nature Aminos and the Master Amino Pattern (MAP)? They seem very similar in dosage, price, contents, etc.

    • Ben Greenfield

Same product, just private labelled so GFS can be a one stop shop

  67. Jeremy (verified owner)

I’m always really skeptical when it comes to pre-workout supplements, as I think a lot of the “effect” is often placebo. So I’m always trying things looking for them to fail to live up to their hype. The Nature Aminos, though, definitely live up to their hype. I take five capsules 30 minutes before I start a 45-minute kettle bell workout, and five more right after my warmup before the lifting begins and I can definitely tell a difference from when I didn’t use them. There is no flushing, no rush, no stimulant-based jitters or anything like that, but they definitely carry you through and allow you to still get your butt kicked but without bonking. After my first bottle I signed up for the subscription and I couldn’t be happier with their performance.

  68. Charles (verified owner)

This must be a supplement my body needs, because my workouts are *always* punchier when I take these prior to the workout. But Ben, can you please discuss the difference between this supplement and the Exos amino powders that you sell?

    Thanks!

    • Ben Greenfield

Only real difference is delivery mechanism: tablet vs. powder! I use both personally.
