Product Description

Designed for hard-charging, high-achievers from CEO’s to soccer moms to professional athletes and beyond, Doc Parsley’s Sleep Remedy, which Ben Greenfield first reported on in the podcast “A Navy SEAL Physician Reveals How Hard-Charging, High-Achievers Can Fall Asleep Fast” was designed to help you overcome the most common nutritional deficiencies that can interfere with deep, restorative sleep.

The unique blend of ingredients in it give you the best way to fall asleep fast, get high quality deep sleep and stay asleep long, all without create addictions or dependencies, and without wreaking all the damaging havoc on your body that normal sleep medications such as Valium and Ambien do.

The product simply contains very small amounts of the nutrients involved in the production of melatonin: L-tryptophan, 5HTP, Vitamin D3, Magnesium, and a very small dose of melatonin. Since an increase in brain GABA levels, is also a normal player in the initiation of sleep, we have also included a small amount of a GABA derivative that can cross into the brain–called “phGABA”. The quantities of each ingredient are intended to replenish normal levels of these nutrients, to allow for the normal production of melatonin, and to help initiate the initial cascade of events that lead to deep, natural sleep.

So who is Doc Parsley?

“Doc” Kirk Parsley, MD is a former Navy SEAL. He received his Medical Degree from Bethesda, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) in 2004. He interned in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Balboa Naval Hospital San Diego in 2005 and subsequently completed a Navy residency in Hyperbarics and Diving Medicine in 2006. He served as an Undersea Medical Officer at Naval Special Warfare Group One from June 2009 to January 2013. While there, he led the development and supervised the group’s first Sports Medicine Rehabilitation center.

And in addition to being able to kill you with his pinky finger, he’s a total sleep nerd. He has been a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine since 2006 and served as Naval Special Warfare’s expert on Sleep Medicine. After leaving the Navy he went into concierge medicine and consulting. He consults on sleep for multiple corporations, and professional athletes, teams and individual clients, including the Navy SEALs. He lectures worldwide on sleep, wellness, anti-aging and hormonal optimization.

Doc Parsley is also a bit of a chemist, and his supplement formulations are used to help the world’s most elite fighting organization: the Navy SEALs. He designs sleep products to compensate for the toxic environment that SEALs find themselves living in – high stress, heavily processed foods, and insufficient sleep, and his brand new “Sleep Remedy” is the first sleep product designed specifically for hard-charging, high-achievers to fall asleep fast.

No matter how well you are currently performing, you want to push that success a little further. Doc Parsley has spent his entire professional career on that edge and in helping others stay there. He has discovered that the most under-used tool in the world for enhancing performance is quality sleep.

Sure, there are plenty of different pills, capsules, powders and oils that can help you sleep, but this Sleep Remedy stuff is one of the most potent that we’ve discovered, and well worth a try, especially if nothing else seems to be working for you. It has been specifically designed to replenish the nutritionally and stress induced deficiencies that interfere with normal physiologic cascades that lead to deep, restful, and restorative sleep.

In short, this product will change the way you sleep forever.

What are the ingredients?

Our sleep product is simply very small amounts of the nutrients involved in the production of melatonin: L-tryptophan, 5HTP, Vitamin D3, Magnesium, and a very small dose of melatonin.

How does it work?

Doc Parsley’s Sleep Remedy is designed to restore commonly deficient nutrients associated with sleep. In Dr. Parsley’s experience, once these nutrients have been restored to optimal levels, most people have vastly improved sleep. Your body is still doing all the work. We are just giving your body the materials it needs to create great sleep.

Can I take it if I’ve drank alcohol?

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. Drinking alcohol in excess is known to affect the brain regions that control sleep. If you have consumed excessive amounts of alcohol, we do not recommend using the sleep product. However, moderate to light alcohol consumption (one to two drinks) should be balanced with drinking more water, and should not negatively impact the effectiveness of the sleep supplement.

Does it have the drowsy side effects?

Because we are not aiming to trick your body’s normal physiology, the common side effects associated with sleep aids are unlikely. The side effects of many sleep aids are caused because the medication is mimicking or blocking a normal process in the body or brain. Our formulation is not designed to mimic or trick—just provide your body with the resources to do its natural processes.

The directions say 8 oz. of warm water, can I mix it with cold water?

The design of the product is to be a night-time treat, and part of a sleep ritual. Warm cups of nice tasting drinks are great for this. However, the product can be dissolved in any temperature water. The temperature of the water will not effect how the product works. However, it will dissolve more easily in warmer water, but it will taste less sweet in cool water.

Is it safe to give to my child?

This product has not been tested on children. It is not recommended for individuals under the age of 18.

How often should I take it?

If you routinely do not get enough sleep. I recommend taking this product every night. If you are trying to catch-up on sleep, after being sleep deprived, I recommend taking the supplement every night, until you have caught up. The product can also be used for jet-lag. In that case it would be taken for a duration related to how many time zones you are crossing.

Will it make me feel hungover?

The nutrients of the Sleep Remedy are all normally found in your body—and designed to create “normal” or optimal levels of these nutrients. This is not a physiological trick. Since your body and brain are creating sleep in a natural way, groggy or hung-over feelings are highly unlikely.

Can I take more than one?

If you have taken sleep drugs, anti-depressants, or anti-anxiety medications for a long period of time, you may feel somewhat resistant to the Sleep Remedy. Since the dosages of all ingredients within the Sleep Remedy are very low, taking 1.5-2.0 packets is unlikely to have negative consequences to those that feel the need for this. However, always start with the recommended dosage. If you feel like you need to increase the dose, do it very slowly. Remember that too much magnesium can cause diarrhea, and our product does have magnesium in it.

Will I still be able to wake up for my child?

Many sleep aides actually render the user “unconscious.” It is difficult, and possibly impossible to wake from this state. However, our Sleep Remedy is simply designed to help your body create normal, restful sleep. During normal sleep, most people are able to wake easily when their environment changes (crying baby, alarms, and things that go bump in the night).

Is it OK for everyday use?

You cannot build dependency on this product. You will not experience withdrawal symptoms. You can use normal doses for 1, 5, 50, 150, 500 days in a row, and the only thing that may build up in your system would be the vitamin D3, but depending on how much sunlight you get, and if you already supplement with D3 this is also unlikely. One final Vitamin D3 comment: taking Vitamin D3 at night will not cause insomnia. This is a common, but completely untrue misconception.

Will this inhibit normal production of melatonin?

Absolutely not. Our dosage is well below the level that would cause that. You would need at least 600% more melatonin than we use, and probably twice that. Melatonin is instrumental in helping us coordinate our circadian rhythms. L-tryptophan, 5HTP, Magnesium, Vitamin D3 are all required to make melatonin. Once melatonin levels start going up, your brain produces and releases a neurotransmitter called GABA. GABA helps slow down your neocortex – that big wrinkly bit that separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom. That is why we this product has the final ingredient phGABA. Since GABA can’t get into the brain very easily, some tricky biochemist figured out a way to get it into the brain by adding the “ph” part—which is a non-polar ring. That allows the GABA to cross into the brain.

Why is it a powder?

This product was originally designed with the Department of Defense (DOD), Navy SEALs, frequent red-eye flyers, shift-workers, and first responders in mind. It is easy to carry around, it will last 52 forevers on the shelf, it takes up very little room, in other words, it’s handy and neat. But, it is also designed to be a powder for a very important reason: bio-availability. If you take a bunch of different pills, some are pressed, some have a glycerin shell, some have a gelatin shell etc. They dissolve slowly, unreliably, and at different rates. This product is designed so that you can get all of the ingredients immediately, and at the same time.

Can you take it in the middle of the night?

If you wake up in the middle of the night, just take the product again. You can also split it: take half when you are going to bed, and take the other half when you wake up in the middle of the night. If you have no problem going to sleep, don’t take it before bed, just take it when you wake up in the middle of the night, and then lay back down, and breathe/relax/meditate etc.

Can I or should I combine this with anything?

Ben Greenfield's favorite one-two combo for sleep is a single packet of sleep remedy combined with 2-3 capsules of NatureCBD.

Good news!! For everyone that complained about the “artificial sweetener” taste (it’s actually stevia, which is a natural sweetener) they now have a PILL!

I’ve been using this product for over 2 years and I love it.

There are times I have issues falling asleep but I’ve learned that you can’t rely on a product to better your sleep unless your willing to clean up your sleep hygiene. Turn off the TV at 9pm, read a book, dim the lights. Turn off your smart phone.

I have an ōura ring and it tracks my sleep. Before I took sleep more seriously and made an effort to clean up my sleep hygiene it was hit or miss.

Now with sleep Remedy I get 8-9 a night and I’ve normally have a sleep score of 95% on my ōura data.

    Thanks doc parsley!!

I haven’t tried it yet, but my sleep Dr prescribed basically the same combination of meds in pill form … magnesium citrate, 5-htp & melatonin. I was taking melatonin only, but woke up repeated all night. Now I wake up once or twice for a quick bathroom break, much better. No after-tastes & no sugar.

I have used this on one occasion — a sample I received at Paleo f(x). It worked well, but I have concerns before purchasing…isn’t phGABA the same thing as Phenibut? If so, what is the approximate dosage in this product. I’ve read just about everywhere that Phenibut should never be taken in more than 250mg doses and, more importantly with this product, only once every 48-72 hours. I believe concerns are addiction and tolerance. I’d appreciate any insight you may have.

I have a WHOOP band that measures sleep performance. I purchased this product hoping it would it would help increase my time in SWS/deep sleep which has been low. This product has done the opposite. I usually have less time in SWS/deep sleep when I use it compared it not using it.

Very surprised by all the negative reviews. It is the only supplement other than melatonin which I’ve taken that actually helps me fall asleep more easily, and provides restful sleep. I’ve used it off and on over 2 years now.

I take spray melatonin a few nights a week just so I’m mixing up my sleep aids; I don’t want the effects to lessen from prolonged use. The spray melatonin works great for helping me fall asleep but the sleep quality is poor – lots of crazy dreams and waking up unrested.

My only quarrel with Dr. P’s sleep remedy is the price, it’s a bit expensive. I don’t actually mind the taste too; you want to taste terrible, try a sleep tincture with chamomile, it’s intense LOL. My gf hates the taste though so maybe it’s different to each palate.

I’d recommend this to anyone suffering from sleep issues. I’ve tried just about everything under the sun: swanwick blue blockers, meditation before sleep, tinctures, sleepy / herbal teas, cider / honey tea mix, 5HTP, many herbal supplements, magnesium (in many forms), melatonin (spray, liquid, capsules, time released), sleep masks… it’s ridiculous how difficult it can be to get a good night’s sleep for some.

Hope this product works for you 🙂

So this product seemed to work for me for a few weeks although the taste was terrible.

However it started to backfire on me when I started menstruation this month. I woke up every two hours with neck and shoulder pain and a headache . I think the combination is to much for me. Going to try and cut the dose in half after I give it a break for a few days .

Helps me to fall asleep but then I wake up in the middle of the night with a very fast heart rate and can’t fall back asleep. My heart rate stays elevated the rest of the night and the next day I’m exhausted all day.

My husband loves this stuff. He would give it five stars. I have tried it at at least 8 times and I can only give it one star. First of all, I cannot tolerate the taste, which I believe is from the artificial sweetener. It is so unpalatable to me that I have to hold my breath to swallow it. It is slightly better cold. Note that I tend to have a very keen sense of smell and taste, and can detect stevia from a mile away. Yuck. Secondly, it upsets my stomach the next morning with Montezuma’s revenge, as bad or worse than Natural Calm or other magnesium supplements. Thirdly, and most importantly, it does not help me sleep. I may get a little sleepy within an hour of drinking it, but at the same time, oddly enough, I become too restless to actually go to sleep, or I wake up within a few hours and become too restless to get back to sleep. Compared to my typical insomnia, this makes me wake up at least two hours earlier and causes me to be physically restless, which I don’t otherwise experience. I have no idea what might cause this. I have found plain melatonin more beneficial, although according to Doc Parsley, it’s not good to take more than a small fraction of a standard OTC dose of melatonin. I suppose this remedy is worth a try, but not a panacea for all insomniacs.

This works very well for me. Taste is fine. I use it occasionally on an as needed basis.

  10. Rated 5 out of 5

Works very well with for me. No stomach issues for the time I have used it. A half pack does it for me but I feel great after using a full one. I tend to dream more when I take this. Given it is expensive but when it takes you from sleeping 3-4 hours to 5-6 while working night shift I could do much worse with 60 dollars.

  11. Rated 1 out of 5

To me this concoction tastes fine, however, this “remedy” actually kept me awake for most of the night. My sleep issue is that I wake up too early, usually between 3-4am. This expensive “sleep remedy” kept me awake for hours and when I did finally fall asleep, it was restless and completely unrestorative. I did give this a solid effort; tried it four nights in a row, took a break and then tried it again. This product is a big, expensive “No Thank You” for me.

Has an artificial sweetener taste that i did not care for, and even taking 1/2 the packet in warm water left me with a slight stomach upset, which seemed to resolve after 15-20 minutes. But then I woke up at 12:50am with nausea, belching and gas. I’ll stick with my Naturally CALM – doesn’t have any melatonin or tryptophan etc, has a better flavor, and doesn’t give me nausea.

I don’t know why but for some reason this stuff makes me really restless at night. I have depression and some anxiety and I have been on an ssri Lexapro but id say no more than 2500-3000 k mg over a year and a half span. So I wonder if my mental health is the reason why im not responding well to this stuff. But literally I sleep like pure s*** when I take this stuff…..

The low review is because I don’t see any way to view ingredients on my own on your website. Is your citric acid non-GMO? Is this product vegan? If so or not, where do you get your ingredients from? I’d like to see an ingredient list that can be enlarged whenever I tap on the item.
